DORA (WHALEY) ELLIS Obituary
Dora (Whaley) Ellis formerly of Elgin Dora (Whaley) Ellis, of Chicago, passed away on May 22, 2012. Born on July 5, 1917, in Potts Camp, Miss., Dora was the daughter of Walter and Idella Whaley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roosevelt Ellis; daughters, Orangelee and Betty; a granddaughter, Tamara and a grandson, Otis; brothers, Richard, Hayward and Guy; and sisters, Beatrice, Lottie Mae and Allean. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Elgin and LeClaire Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago. Dora leaves seven children to cherish her memory: Beatrice (the late Mose) Williams and Bernice (DeOtis) Taylor, both of Chicago, Walter (Barbara) McHughes, Haywood (Melonese) Hughes, Roosevelt (Gloria) Ellis Jr., and Rick (Traci) Ellis, all of Elgin, and James Ellis of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Beatrice and Barbara; and four generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. A celebration of her life will be held at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, Ill., 1280 Summit St., Elgin, on Friday, May 25, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in Bluff City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Baptist Church of Elgin, Ill., or LeClaire Missionary Baptist Church. Laird Funeral Home is assisting the family.
