Obituary Condolences

Doris P. Missel Doris P. Missel, 65, died Sept. 26, 2012, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born April 18, 1947, in Memphis, TN, to William and Miriam Carpenter. Doris, who was known as Dolly growing up, was raised in Memphis, TN and graduated from Humes High School. She raised her two daughters in Rochester, NY, where she worked as a secretary at Rochester Christian School and then as a bookkeeper at Eastwood Shoes. She was an active member of Browncroft Community Church and later at Westside Baptist Church. She relocated to the Chicagoland area in 2000 to be near her daughters and their growing families. She most recently worked in payroll at EmPower HR in Arlington Heights and had been a dedicated member and volunteer at Willow Creek Community Church. She loved her grandchildren, whom she showered with attention, praise and gifts. She was a mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend and had a joyful, giving spirit. She was a dedicated worker, whether as employee or volunteer, who made a difference with her skills and positive attitude. Her laughter would light up a room and lift everyone's hearts. She loved to bake and would often share her cookies, apple pie or muffins. She was a gifted seamstress and made dresses, costumes, quilts and more for her family. She loved to read, travel and go to community events like concerts and fireworks. She lived her life as a model of the Good Samaritan and would often quietly come alongside people helping them with different needs like rides, food or friendly company. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Missel Carson of Seattle, WA and Deborah (Dan) Farrell of Wheaton; five grandchildren, T.J., Josiah, Rachael, Rebecca and Sarah Jean; her sister, Carol Frye and her brother, William Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews. In memory of Doris and her joyful, giving spirit, we ask that family and friends look for an opportunity to do an act of kindness for someone who is facing a need. You can post your act of kindness at At her memorial service we will post all the stories anonymously as a visual witness of the continuation of her generous spirit. A tree is being dedicated to Doris at Morton Arboretum, in the daffodil glade. Our hope is that family and friends will sit in the bright, quiet splendor of God's creation as they remember Doris' beautiful spirit. A memorial service will be held at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington IL on Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. Family and friends may sign a guest book at For more information, please call Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton at 630-668-0027.
