ELIZABETH SMITH Obituary

Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Smith Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Smith, 86, passed into heaven, peacefully on May 10, 2011, in Elgin, surrounded by the love of her family. Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Helen and Whipple Parrott, she grew up in Elgin and lived in Dundee for many years. Betty lived a wonderful life. On Oct. 5, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Donald "Snuffy" Smith, and devoted her life to him and their family: son, Donald (Mary Lou) Smith, David (Kamellia) Smith, Richard Smith (Debra DeMotto), and daughters, Beth Miller (Doug Yarbrough) and Peggy (Roy) DeSousa. Betty was "bonus Mom" to Jim (Linda) and Rich (Julie) Yunker and their siblings John, Judy, Heidi and Linda. Betty is adored by her grandchildren, Gabrielle DeSousa (Jerry Ygelcias), Keri (Brian) Tyrrell, Ashley (Brian) Condron, Joshua (Valerie) DeSousa, Rachel (Kevin) Murphy, and Ryan Smith, and she adored being great-gramma Gigi to Will Condron, Elliana and Dahlia DeSousa Yglecias, Tommy and Mia Murphy, Finley and Avery Tyrrell, Owen and Brienna DeSousa. Betty is also survived by her sister, Helen Burbury; dear sisters-in-law, Rose Parrott, Laurie Parrott and Mary Smith; plus many adoring nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Barry Burbury for his devotion, and to wonderful friend Lillian Czura. Graciously, Betty entered heaven to join her beloved husband, Don; her sister, Barbara Kreplin; and brothers, Kenneth and Robert Parrott. Joining Betty in eternal rest is her loyal dog Smitty. For 62 years Betty shared friendship and fun with her Wednesday Poker Club Girls. She enjoyed camping trips, traveling, the woods of northern Minnesota, cross-stitching, music, nature, photography, and animals, plus her many friends at the Dundee Senior Center. She always sang or whistled a happy tune, and brought joy to all who met her. She will be forever remembered, cherished, and missed. To honor Betty, take your memories of her on a walk through Snuffy's Prairie next to Raceway Woods in Dundee, Ill. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
