Ernest J. "Ernie" Plote of Elgin Ernest J. "Ernie" Plote, 74, passed away Sept. 29, 2012, in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born July 26, 1938, in Elgin, the son of Ervin and Mildred Schramm Plote. Ernie was the owner/operator of Ernie's Tire Center in Elgin for many years prior to his retirement. He was an avid golf and pinochle player, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed. Ernie was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin, the Elgin Elks' Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1368, and the American Legion Post #57. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, whom he married on Nov. 13, 1976; children, Debbie (Mark) Puffer, Beth Paulsen, Rick (Kathy) Wallace, Debbie Brooks, Pam Plote and Randy Plote; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Donald (Nancy) Plote; two sisters, Lois (Jim) Roesner and Nancy (Bill) Tobin; along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother-in-law, Leila Cooley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1111 Van St., Elgin. Burial will follow in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, and from 10:15 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, at the church. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin.
