Evelyn E. Gieseke of Elgin Evelyn E. Gieseke (nee Berkley), 84, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, in St. Louis, Mo. She was born on Feb. 22, 1928, in Algonquin, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Esther Berkley. Evelyn graduated from Dundee High School in 1946. Like many others she worked at the Elgin Watch Factory In the spring room and also was a licensed beautician. She will be remembered by many of the 25+ years devoted to selling shoes at the Joseph Spiess & Company, where she worked until her retirement due to multiple sclerosis in 1983. Each day was filled with smiles and kindness toward others. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin. Survivors include her son, Rick (Sue) Gieseke of Manchester, Mo.; daughter, Ruthann Gieseke of St. Louis; granddaughters, Sara and Lori; and brothers, Arwin (Nan), Edward (Dorothy), Douglas (Rhoda) and Arthur Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer of Elgin, whom she married on Oct. 10, 1948; her parents; and brother, Lester. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1111 Van St., Elgin, IL 60123, with the Rev. Martin Balzer officiatIng. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Green Park Lutheran School, 4248 Green Park Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.
