Rev. Francis Bernard McDonald Obituary
Rev. Francis Bernard McDonald Rev. Francis Bernard McDonald was born in Chicago on September 7, 1931 to John McDonald and Mary Ann Green McDonald. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1960 and assigned to St. Rose Parish in Wilmington. Subsequent assignments as associate pastors included St. Walter Parish in Roselle (1964) and St. Scholastica Parish in Woodridge (1967). Father McDonald was named chaplain of Driscoll High School in Addison (1968). He then became principal of St. Francis High School in Wheaton (1977), In 1985, he served as temporary administrator of Assumption Parish in Ashkum and of St. Alexis Parish in Bensenville. In October of that year he was named pastor of St. Walter Parish in Roselle where he served until his retirement in 2006. He resided at Driscoll Catholic High School until returning to St. Walter Parish as pastor emeritus. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Father McDonald was appointed as DiocesanVocation Director (1967); a Diocesan Seminary Board member (1971); the Diocesan Coordinator of Seminarians (1972) and as the Coordinator of Transitional Deacons (1973). He received his Master's Degree in Education in 1976 and in the same year was appointed Diocesan Liaison for Marriage Encounter. Father also served a term on the Diocesan Board of Education, as Chair of the Presbyteral Council and in 1993, began a five-year term as a Diocesan Consultor. He was the brother of William (Marilyn), Robert (the late Cece), and the late Jack, James and Eileen (Ken) Hartmann. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Father McDonald was proud of his Irish Heritage and was dedicated to education throughout his priesthood. Father McDonald will lie in state Sunday, April 28 from 4 to 9 p.m. and Monday, April 29 from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.at St. Walter Church, 130 W. Pine, Roselle. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Walter School Endowment Fund at 201 W. Maple Ave., Roselle, IL 60172 would be appreciated.
