Obituary Condolences

George Stanley Sangdahl II formerly of Naperville George Stanley "Stan" Sangdahl II, 89, of Vancouver, Canada, died Monday, May 3, 2010. He was the loving husband of 56 years to Phyllis Sangdahl (nee Kirkham); dearest father of Susan (Steve) DeChiara, Stanley (Nicki) Sangdahl and Stephen (Janet) Sangdahl; fond grandfather of Karlin Sangdahl, Logan Sangdahl, Nicholas DeChiara and Jack Sangdahl; dear brother of Jean Sangdahl; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nina Sangdahl; brother, Robert Sangdahl; sister, Janice Sangdahl; and grandson, Anthony DeChiara. Stan was born April 10, 1921, to George and Nina (nee Forbes) Sangdahl, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the Navy in Washington D.C. during World War II and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received a Ph.D. in metallurgy. He was a metallurgical engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron for over 30 years. He loved traveling, photography and sports, especially badminton, which he became Midwest champion of in 1952 and 1953. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
