1922 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
Hania "Ann" Balcer, 91, of Algonquin, IL, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Saturday, Oct. 5th. Born in Augustynowo, Poland, on February 17, 1922, Mrs. Balcer arrived in the United States in 1949. She was widowed in 1962 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1967. She worked at Marshall Field & Company in downtown Chicago until her retirement in 1982. She has lived with her daughter in Algonquin for 28 years. She is survived by her children Dianne (William) Hagerman and Yolanda Oren Jordan; grandchildren, Melody (Mark) Kuhrt, William Oren, Michael Oren, Katrina (nee Oren) Hahndorf, William "BJ" Hagerman, and James Oren; great grandchildren, Alyson, Analyse, Keira, and Khloe Kuhrt, Brooke Brincks and Madison Hahndorf. She was preceded in death by her husband Boleslaw, her parents, Szczepan Pietrzak and Malgorzata (nee Kujawa); sisters, Helena Ziolkowski and Marianna Wlodarski; and brothers, Leon, Stanislaw, and Cheslaw. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct 13, at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church where she will lie in repose from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
