Hannelore "Hanna" Griffiths of Island Lake Hannelore "Hanna" Griffiths, age 69 passed away at home on Saturday, July 13, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. Born in Germany on Feb. 20,1944, Hanna attended trade school and eventually married a U.S. serviceman. From 1962 to 1981, she raised four children in various locales, including Hanau, Germany, where she ensured her children were exposed to all that her homeland could offer. A resident of Island Lake for 32 years, she was most recently employed at Thermo-Fisher Scientific in Barrington, where she was a senior assemblist for the last 21 years. No one loved both her job and those with whom she worked more than Hanna. She enjoyed spending time with her family, had an incredible love of music and loved cheering on her hometown Blackhawks. Aside from her children, her proudest achievement came on Nov. 3, 2009, when she became a U.S. citizen. She is survived by her children, Michael (Connie); Patricia and Thomas (Amy); two grandchildren, Ryan and Joshua; sister, Christa; niece, Sandra; and her beloved four-legged companion, Jin. Hanna was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf and Maria Ries, and her daughter, Nancy Ann Griffiths. Public visitation will be at the Chapel of Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Rd., Cary, Sat., July 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the funeral service. Burial will follow. If desired, memorial donations can be made to either The Anti-Cruelty Society or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For more information, call 847-639-3883 or visit www.WindridgeFuneralHome.com.
