IDA GABLER Obituary
Ida Gabler (nee Wright), 89, was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Detroit, MI, and passed away Nov. 6, 2013, in Irving, TX. Services are private. Ida served in the Navy in World War II. She earned a B.S. in biology from Illinois Institute of Technology and enjoyed doing research. She married Eric Gabler in 1950. They were happily married until his death in 1977. She was active in a number of masonic organizations and held various leadership positions. She played cello for the Youth Orchestra of Chicago and played piano and organ for church and her masonic organizations. She was an active volunteer for the Lattof YMCA, coaching the swim team and running the preschool program. Ida was a nature guide for the Morton Arboretum; she loved gardening and animals of all kinds. She is survived by her children, Ruth (Arley) Burkman, John (Karen) Gabler and Sandy (Tim) Larson and son-in-law, Fred Maier; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Liz Picek and Doris Bishop. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Maier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morton Arboretum.
