ISAMU "SAM" SAKAI

Isamu "Sam" Sakai Isamu "Sam" Sakai, 90, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Born June 8, 1920, in Portland Ore., Sam was raised in Kyushu, Japan. He returned to America as a teenager, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Sam was a devoted White Sox fan and a Chicago businessman, owner of the Hot-N-Tot Barbecue Restaurant and later of the Mark Twain Jewelry Store. Sam was the beloved husband of 64 years to Machiko; loving father to Harry (Sharon Kilkenny), Peggy (the late Mike) Waters and Janet (Rich) Pultorak; cherished grandfather of Susan (Mike) Stonequist and Cyndi (Matt) Ozimek; and the proud great-grandfather of Brendan, Jonathan, Connor, Nicholas and Abigail. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Bunji and Tsuru; and his brother, Fumio of Japan. Visitation is Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Buddhist Temple of Chicago, 1151 W. Leland Ave., Chicago, 773-334-4661.
