John G. VanThournout of Geneva John G. VanThournout,loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, banker, golfer, philanthropist and lifelong Cubs fan, died Friday, April 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joyce. Born Aug. 31, 1927, in Elgin, Ill., he was the youngest of 10 children. John began his career as a teller at First National Bank of Geneva in 1950. He rose to and served as president for over 20 years. He served as staff sergeant in the Air Force in Virginia from 1951 to 1952. He was a founder of Fabyan Foundation, board member of TriCity Family Services, an alderman for Geneva, as well as a longtime member of United Methodist Church, Rotary International, the American Legion, St. Charles Country Club and Geneva Golf Club. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Michael) Nydle of Albuquerque, N.M., Gail (Howard) Lanznar of Wilmette and Debra (Charles) Campbell of Geneva; grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) Nydle, Nathaniel (Lauren) Campbell, Marcus Lanznar, Kathryn (Lyle) Anastos, Jonathan Lanznar and Kara Nydle; great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Avery Nydle; two sisters, Anna DeWeirdt and Bernice Ludtke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St. (Route 38), Geneva. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva.
