Joseph F. "Joe" Bialek of North Aurora Joseph F. "Joe" Bialek, 96, born Oct. 10, 1915, raised in Chicago, formerly of Lyons and Winfield, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012, in North Aurora. Joe met Ethel Veverka, his future bride, at Riddell Sports Co., Chicago, in the 1940s, where both were employed. They were married Nov. 9, 1946, and had six children. Joe is survived by his children, Francene (Greg) Hynd, Paula (John) Schumacher, Claudia (Bill) Johnston, Laurie (Edwin) Dieter and Joe (Lisa) Bialek. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, James (Marianne), Jeffrey (Kelly), Kristin (Mark), Walter (Danielle), Brett (Rachel), Matthew and Eric; plus nine great-grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Daniel, Jacob, Noah, Jonas, Lucas, Katie and Ingrid. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Joette Bialek Enders; his parents, Jozef and Wyktoria Bialek; and his siblings, Frank, John, Jean and Mary. Joe was a staff sergeant in the Army in World War II and spent his career at the Veteran's and the Social Security Administrations. He joined St. John the Baptist parish when he and his family moved to Winfield in 1965. He was an avid golfer and secretary of Winfield Lions Golf League at St. Andrew's Country Club for many years. He participated in the VA Tee Tournament while legally blind, competing until he was 95 years old. He was also a member of the Winfield Police & Fire Commission and volunteered for many years as a tax preparer for senior citizens, as well as an election judge for DuPage County. Special thanks to caregivers Nancy, Grace, Mary and Angela, and the CNS hospice team. Visitation is Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road (one block east of Naperville Road), Wheaton. Funeral prayers will be said Monday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Winfield. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield, Ill., for memorial Masses, or for the benefit of the Honor Flight Chicago, 938 W. Montana St., Chicago, Ill.
