Obituary Condolences

Dr. Linda Pollack Mercer Born April 8, 1947, in Jersey City, NJ, Dr. Linda Pollack Mercer died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, in Park Ridge. She attended NYU in biology and started Rutgers Medical School at age 20, obtaining her MMS. She graduated M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed internship at LAC+USC Medical Center in California, and residency at Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital. She later moved to Chicago to work at Children's Memorial Hospital, as the director of inpatient child psychiatric unit, and then owned her own practice, A Therapeutic Alliance, in Skokie. She retired to Crystal Lake, IL to spend time with her family. She was active in college with volunteer work for the War on Poverty, and continued her activism for civil, women's, lgbt rights and animal rescue throughout her life. She was beloved wife of the late Detective John W. Mercer, Area 5 Chicago Police Department; loving mother of Jennifer "J.J." (Alma) and Johnathan (Venda); loving stepmother to Michael and Mark (Helen); loving grandmother of Oliver, Alex, Dean, Yianni and Antonia; and dear sister to Dr. Paul and Kathy Pollack. Memorial visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago. Interment will be private.
