LYLE PFLEDERER Obituary

Lyle Richard Pflederer Lyle Richard Pflederer was born to Fred Pflederer and Emma (Schmidgal) Pflederer on June 11, 1922, in Elgin, Ill. Soon after his graduation from Elgin High School in 1940, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, when he served his country with honor at home and overseas until after the war ended some five years later. In 1942, he married Stella Louise van der Zwalm of St. Charles, Ill., with whom he shared a loving relationship of 68 years. After the war he entered an apprenticeship at the Case Factory in Elgin as a tool and die maker, and worked in this and related fields until his retirement in 1987. Except for his time in the service during the war, he resided in Elgin his entire life, raising with Stella four children: Richard (1943) of Williamsburg, Va., Dennis (1947) of Sparks, Nev., Linda (1956) of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and David (1957) of Huntley, Ill. He nurtured a love of aviation, which he pursued in many forms throughout his life, including his work in the Army Air Corps and model airplane making/flying which actually began in high school and continued well into retirement. He and Stella were also active in the post-war association of his Air Corps Wing and attended several meetings of this group around the U.S. He and Stella loved to travel, mostly by car within the U.S., but also to such international destinations as Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, Brazil, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. Besides wife Stella and four children, he is survived by his three younger brothers, Galen and Fred of Bella Vista, Ark. and Jack of St. Charles, Ill.; plus seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Sherman Hospital Foundation, in care of the family. Stella, I have read about the loss of your husband Lyle. My sympathies to you and to your family. I have great memories of the two of you sitting and waiting in the hospital waiting room for those bi-weekly shots both Lyle and my dad Silas Austby received for a couple of years. We had some great conversations then. I also was so glad to run into the two of you at a restaurant a while back. I know that Lyle was a strong and resilient patient for so many years. Love to you and your family. Linda Mason
