Margaret Ann "Maggie" Hertel Margaret Ann "Maggie" Hertel (nee Kasak), 78, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, in Sycamore, Ill., after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 10, 1933, in Glen Ellyn, Ill., to Anton and Marie Kasak. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard "Dick" Hertel. During their 55 years together the couple were long-time residents of Sleepy Hollow, Ill., before moving to New Port Richey, Fla. for 13 years during the winter months and spending summers in Sycamore, Ill. Maggie attended John Harrington Art School and was a graduate with honors from Elgin Community College, earning an associate degree in mid-management marketing. Maggie worked as an independent graphic designer. Maggie was very active in her community whether in Florida, where she volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Community Center or in Sycamore, where she volunteered at Kishwaukee Hospital and with the Stagecoach Theater. Maggie was very talented and enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, working puzzles and stained glassing. Maggie enjoyed sharing her work with others including restoring the stained glass art piece now located in the chapel at the Kishwaukee Hospital. Maggie has also knitted hats and sewed comfort pillows for patients at the local hospital. Maggie was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church of West Dundee, where she was 25-year member of the choir and most recently attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sycamore. Maggie enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband, Dick, as well as a good game of bowling or a fun round of golf with friends or family. Maggie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be fondly remembered by daughters, Cathy (Steve) Overmyer of Elgin and Carol (Jeff) Judson of Dundee and sons, William "Bill"/"Rod" (Jean) Hertel of Fox River Grove, James "Randy" (Diane) Hertel of Orlando, Florida and Karl "Rick" Hertel; grandchildren, Lily and Hannah Overmyer, Jason and Brock Judson, Cassandra and Eric Hertel, Rebecca Hertel and Margaret (Tyler) Hodges, and Sydney, Alli and Andrew Hertel; and great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Hodges. Maggie is also survived by her brothers, John (Audrey) Kasak and Bill (Betty) Kasak and sister, Mary (Bob) Albrecht; and many loving nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, April 27, beginning with a visitation at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 845 W. Main St. in West Dundee.
