Matthew UNGER Obituary
Matthew P. Unger of Naperville since 1979 Matthew Peter "Matt" Unger, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at his home, after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Andale, Kan., to the late Agapit and Caroline (nee Giefer) Unger. He was the beloved husband of Connie (nee Kingsley) Unger, whom he married Sept. 11, 1976, in Topeka, Kan.; loving father of Mark Unger of Colorado, John Unger of Montrose, Colo., Matthew T. Unger of Bellvue, Colo., Blake Gross of Clearwater, Fla., Greg (Denise) Gross of Naperville, Brian (Melissa) Gross of Grand Haven, Mich., Kathy (Larry) Unger Hortenstine of Topeka, Kan. and Marie Unger Brouhard of Bellvue, Colo.; adored grandfather of 16; and cherished great-grandfather of seven. Matt is also survived by his sister, Carrie (John) Hill of Wichita, Kan. He was the fond brother-in-law of Linda Kingsley Koetter of Edwardsville, Kan. and Jerry (Karin) Kingsley of Topeka, Kan., and the fun-loving uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Leo Unger, Ray (the late Mary) Unger, Agnes (the late Art) Allen and Rose Falk Seidl. Matt served in the Army during the Korean War departing as Master Sergeant. He went on to graduate from Kansas State University in Manhattan with a degree in accounting and business. He worked for Burroughs/Unisys Corp. for 32 years and then became a realtor in Naperville working for John Greene Realty and Coldwell Banker until his retirement in 2004. Matt was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Naperville, the Knights of Columbus and was a life member of Naperville Judd Kendall VFW Post # 3873. He enjoyed family life, a good party, dancing, the outdoors and his work. He was loved and will be missed by many. The Unger family wishes to thank Ruth Owusu, Matt's caregiver of 2½ years, Dr. Timothy Tyrrell, Visiting Angels, all the staff at St. Thomas Hospice and so many wonderful dear friends for their help and prayers. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St, Naperville. Services will begin Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Dr., Naperville.
