ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Naomi Jean Baughman (nee Volz), 93, died Friday January 31, 2014 at the Moorings Health Center. Jean was born in Bellevue, Kentucky on August 21, 1920 to Albert and Elsie (Griggs) Volz. Jean graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She married Gene Knox Baughman on December 30, 1942. Jean worked as a first grade teacher until her first child was born and then devoted her time to raising her children: Barbara, Carol, and Linda. She was a busy mother and wife committed to her family and community serving as a brownie leader, Sunday School teacher, an active PTA member, and an election judge. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. Jean enjoyed traveling with her family to locations near and far. Once her children were older, Jean returned to teaching, spending many years teaching kindergarten in Arlington Heights School District 25. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Frank) Killey and their children Kristin (John Weggler) Killey and Brent (Debbie) Killey; her daughter Carol (Rick) Antolovich and their children Abigail Antolovich, and Lindsey (Joshua) Hynie; her daughter Linda (James) Pushaw and their daughter Kathleen Robin Diviak (John O'Keefe); and 5 great-grandchildren: Katie, Sierra, Quinn, Knox, and Tabitha. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents, and two sisters (Ruth Volz and Esther Spitzfaden). A memorial service is planned on Sunday February 2, 2014 at noon in the Harbor Room at The Moorings of Arlington Heights, 811 E. Central Road, Arlington Heights, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Rainbow Hospice, the Geneva Foundation New Hope Scholarship, or the ABC/25 Foundation.
