Obituary Condolences

Robert W. Besler of Elgin Robert W. Besler, 76, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in his home. He was born on March 6, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Lorraine (nee Rogers) Besler. Robert had worked for Dubuque Packing Co. for 25 years, he then owned and operated Du-B-Q Meats in South Elgin until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Robert loved to travel and be on his boat on the Mississippi River in Iowa. He was a car enthusiast, and often entered his car, the 57 Ford Fairlane Retractable in the shows. Robert will be dearly missed. He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 799. Survivors include his wife, Bernice (nee Spark), whom he married on Aug. 24, 1957; five children, Linda Charckon, Diane Ewert, Robert (Laura) Besler, William (Patti) Besler and Steven (Linda) Besler; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brother, Dr. Gerald (Ann) Besler; a sister, Cathy Fens; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Besler; and a brother, LeRoy Besler. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m. at the St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. (Route 31), Elgin, and on Thursday, at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Laurence Catholic Church Building Fund or the Moose Lodge.
