ROY SAMUEL CRANMER

Obituary Condolences

Roy Samuel Cranmer, 92, passed away September 21, 2013 at his home in Wauconda, Illinois (formerly of Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights). He was born February 3, 1921, to Charles Edward Cranmer and Della Mae Holmes in Jefferson, OK. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the Navy and served during WWII on the USS Currituck. Roy trained at Navy Pier, Chicago. He loved Chicago and chose to settle there after he married. A few years later he moved out of the city, to a new subdivision that would later become the City of Rolling Meadows. Roy was a charter member of the Community Church of Rolling Meadows. He owned a landscape contracting business and was an early member of the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association. Roy retired to property in Wauconda where he returned to his farming roots: haying and raising sheep. He spent his active retirement restoring antique Farmall tractors, and remained an active member of the Lake County Farm Heritage Association. He spent his winters with his new hobby, snowmobiling. He stayed active until the end, only taking the time to sit down for church and Chicago Blackhawks games. On August 18, 1946, he married Nadine McCoskey; they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Melvin, Paul, Vernon, and sisters Eunice and Zola. He is survived by his loving wife, Nadine; children, April (Warren) Johns, Mel (Nancy), Susan (John) Douglas, Doug (Rhonda), Roy; brothers and sisters, Verl, David, Catherine, and Anna; seventeen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 3-8 p.m., at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road (½ block east of Route 53), Rolling Meadows, Illinois. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, at 10 a.m. at Harvest Bible Chapel, 800 Rohlwing Road, Rolling Meadows, Illinois. For information, 847-253-0224.
