Russell W. Broughton of Hampshire Russell W. Broughton, 58, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born April 21, 1954, in Elgin, the son of Woodrow and Margaret (nee Thomson) Broughton. He was a 1972 graduate of Huntley High School. Russ married Sissy Proffitt on Dec. 7, 1985, in West Dundee. Russ was the owner and operator of Broughton Excavating. He had previously worked for Preferred Electric of Roselle, Gluth Brothers of Woodstock, and Dean Foods in Huntley. He loved Harleys, fixing and restoring old cars and riding motorcycles. He is survived by his wife, Sissy: son, Russell and daughter, Whitney, both at home; grandson, Landon; his mother, Margaret of Hampshire; a brother, Tom (Lorinda) Broughton of Wisconsin: sister-in-law, Kathy Randall of Michigan; mother- and father-in-law, Marge and Bob Proffitt of Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews; and good friends, especially Dan (Sue) Fruin, Randy (Linda) Ross, Randy (Patty) Pritchard and Dave Bean. He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow; and a brother, Denny. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Russell Broughton Memorial Fund (to assist with medical expenses) or to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation.
