Obituary Condolences

Salvatore Giacopelli Salvatore Giacopelli, 81, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was born Oct. 19, 1930, in Italy, the son of Salvatore and Maria (nee Rante) Giacopelli. Salvatore was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for 35 years for the Chicago Park District in the Human Resources and Landscaping Departments. He loved to garden and took great pride in his own landscaping. Salvatore enjoyed building model planes, boats, cars and dollhouses. To relax, he fished and played golf and always loved to share a delicious meal with family. When his children were growing up, Salvatore volunteered as president and baseball coach for his sons Little League. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary (nee Straggi); children, Salvatore (Helena) Giacopelli of Michigan, Maria (Thomas) Tortoriello of Wheaton and John (Karen) Giacopelli of Batavia; grandchildren, Anthony Giacopelli, Gina Giacopelli, Vincent Giacopelli, Janelle Tortoriello, Michelle and Giovanni Castellan, Noelle Tortoriello, Gianna Giacopelli and Michael Giacopelli; great-grandchild, Giovanni; and his sister, Mary Georgulos. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Vincent. Funeral prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Route 38), Geneva, proceeding to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles, for a Celebration of funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Ill.
