Samuel Sublett Jr. Samuel Sublett Jr., 84, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at his residence in St. Charles. He was born April 12, 1928, in Chicago, the son of Samuel and Beatrice Mary (nee Robinson) Sublett Sr. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Ferguson in 1948, in LaGrange, IL. Mr. Sublett received his BA degree and then master's degree from DePaul University in 1955 and a second Masters from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He worked most of his professional career at the juvenile facility in St. Charles, IL, retiring in 1993, with over 40 years of service. He retired as accreditation manager for the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was a member and past president of the American Correctional Association, past president of the National CNCE Juvenile Corrections Agencies, an active member Emeritus of Phi Delta Kappa and past president of the Northern Illinois Chapter, and past president of the Illinois Academy of Criminology, past member of St. Charles Kiwanis. He served as board member at Provena Pine View Care Center and was instrumental in assisting the City of St. Charles in acquiring the vacant State of Illinois land that is now Campton Park. He was an avid golfer and especially relished his role as grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Samuel Sublett IV of Phoenix, AZ, Suzanne (Paul) Nyenhuis of St. Charles, Ill., Jeanette (Langdon) Neal of Chicago, Ill. and Steven (Leona) of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Gabriel Nyenhuis, Sydney Sublett, Olivia (Justin) Phillips, Tyler Neal, MacKenzie Neal, Langdon Neal, Savannah Neal and Samantha Sublett; great-grandchildren, Logan Phillips and Colton Phillips; his brothers, Richard (Beverly) of Wheaton, Ill. and Rollin (Nancy) of Wheaton, Ill.; and sister, Vernette (Donnie) Smith of Detroit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 7, from 4 until 9 p.m. at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St. (three blocks west of the Fox River, one block south of Route 64), St. Charles. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home. Rev. Linda Carter will officiate. Interment will be private. Contributions in Mr. Sublett's memory may be made to Salvation Army, 1710 S. 7th Ave., St. Charles, IL 60174.
