Sara "Sally" Everett Sara "Sally" Everett of Cottage Grove, Wis., was called to her eternal life on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the age of 81. She was born Dec. 5,1930, in Jersey Shore, Pa., to Isabelle Fry Barner and Dr. Edwin Ford Barner, who was the local dentist. It was during her English studies at Penn State University, on a blind date Christmas party, where she met Leroy John Everett, who would become her loving husband and partner for life. Sara studied English Literature and traveled widely, studying Shakespeare's works at the infamous Stratford-upon-Avon. She married Leroy "Roy" on Sept. 3, 1955, and worked as a librarian while her husband worked toward his Ph.D. in biochemistry. The two relocated to the Midwest, having a son, Thomas Ford and daughter, Elizabeth Ann, while living in Kansas City, Miss. Job opportunities brought them to the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, Ill., where they laid down their roots and raised their children. Sally was an active member in the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn and a member of the Glen Ellyn's Woman's Club. Her passions for travel, fine food and wine, music and live theater never abated, as well as her talents in knitting and quilting; often donating much of her work to charity. On a Saturday afternoon you would find her listening to an opera, watching college football, working on a scarf or sweater and doing a crossword puzzle all at once. She is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas Ford (Regina Blevins) Everett of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; daughter, Elizabeth (Brian) Jones of Cottage Grove; and five beloved grandchildren, Noah Phillips, Rachael Phillips, Lucy Everett, Ethan Jones and Natalie Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, Roy on April 11, 2007. A memorial open house to be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 1 until 3 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Sara's name to the Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts from Hurricane Sandy to redcross.org/hurricane_aid.
