MARY E. SHEKLETON Obituary
Mary E. Shekleton of Arlington Heights Mary E. Shekleton was born on June 1, 1920, in Peoria, to Fred and Mary (nee Bibo) Schotthoefer. She passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, in Arlington Heights after a long illness. Mary married Joseph Shekleton in Peoria in May 23, 1943. They raised 10 children, living in Phillipsburg, N.J., Easton, Pa., and Akron and Cleveland Ohio, and since 1969, in Arlington Heights, Ill. Joseph preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2008. Mary is survived by her children, Barbara (Paul) Hegele of St. Charles, Gerald (Maureen) Shekleton of Glen Ellyn, Michael (Bernadette) Shekleton of Peoria, Margaret (Richard) Waltman of Arlington Heights, Marty (the late Barbara) Shekleton of Mount Prospect, Tim (Jill) Shekleton of Hoffman Estates, Cathy (Robert) Hickey of Foxborough, Mass., Patrick Shekleton of Park Forest and Mary Jo (Kelly) Taira of River Forest; her 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jane (Walter) Schwartz of Vienna, Austria. Daughter, Janet (Tom) Franks died in 1988. Mary was also preceded in death by her brother, Fred (Joanne) Schotthoefer; her sister, Anne; and her parents. Mary graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in 1938, and Rosary College in River Forest in 1942. She was active in her Catholic faith and participated in activities with the Cleveland Christ Child Society and St. Louis Parish. In Arlington Heights, she began the visitation for the sick program at St. Edna's. She remained an active church volunteer until developing Alzheimer's disease. She was a focal point of all family gatherings. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Service Ministry at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004, Rush University Medical Center for the Shekleton/Clement Gerontological Scholarship, 1700 W.
