Obituary Condolences

ELGIN - Peter Arnold Lokkesmoe, 90, of Elgin passed away peacefully on March 20, 2014 at Journeycare Hospice. He was born September 9, 1923 in Hendricks, MN the son of Rev. Martin and Ingeborg (Knutson) Lokkesmoe. Peter was a Veteran, who proudly served as a signalman in the United States Navy during World War II. Pete resided in Elgin since 1977 where he worked as a District Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, until his retirement in 1987. Pete was an active member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church of Elgin, Il until his death. Pete was a former President of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Elgin and a past member of the Fox Valley Wood Carving Club. Pete enjoyed many hobbies and activities over the years, always giving back to his community. At the age of 80 he won a gold medal in swimming at the Rockford Senior Olympics, participated in the Reading Aloud program with School District U-46, enjoyed wood carving, stained glass, and most recently painting. Pete lived by the Boy Scout motto to "do a good deed daily" throughout his life. He had the unique ability to always find good in any situation, and was always positive. Pete is survived by his daughter, Barbara (David) Pool of Elgin, two granddaughters, Kelsey and Amy, one great grandson, Carson, a sister-in-law Leone Lokkesmoe of Fairbanks, MN, his friend Laurelle Muehling of South Elgin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 40 years Evelyn (Mundahl) Lokkesmoe, 4 brothers, Benjamin, James, Martin and his identical twin, Knute, and a sister, Priscella Lindberg. A service to celebrate the life of Peter Arnold Lokkesmoe will be held at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, 12N462 Tina Trail in Elgin on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 3:00 pm. With visitation preceding the service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ the Lord Lutheran Church or to the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America in St. Charles, IL.
