MARGARET E. HAGGLUND Obituary
Margaret E. Hagglund, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 3, 2014. She was born to the late Edwin and Maude Hall on July 9, 1929 in Grayslake and has been a Gurnee resident for most of her life. She married the late Bert L. Hagglund on April 16, 1949 and together moved to Gurnee where they raised their three children. Margaret was a bookkeeper for years until she retired in 1992. Though she could not drive, she remained a very active member of the community, serving lunches at the park district, working booths at the Lake County Fair and always providing baked goods for fundraisers. In 1997, she and Bert were honored as the Gurnee Days Honorees and a tree was planted in their name at Viking Park. Margaret was an active member of the Gurnee Community Church and enjoyed years of playing cards with her childhood and longtime friends. Beyond her love for baking, playing cards, socializing with friends and tending her roses, the most important of all was the time spent with her family. She upheld the Swedish family traditions of her husband despite her Norwegian heritage and has passed these traditions on. She was a role model to so many and the epitome of what a wife, mother, grandmother and woman should be. Surviving are her children, Debbie (Ron) Hagey, Curt (Kathy) Hagglund and Lori (Jim) Seefeldt. Her brothers, Edwin Hall Jr. and Bill (Katy) Hall; ten grandchildren, Jenny Killian, Sheri Hagglund, Jana (John) Tilleman, Julie (Michael) Triggs, Carrie (George) Liakas, Jamie (Matt) Greene, Megan Hagglund and Michael, Lauren and Alyssa Seefeldt; seven great grandchildren and one due in August. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and countless friends. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 7 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Ave. Gurnee with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gurnee Community Church or to Midwest Palliative Hospice.
