GORDON RICHARD SCHNULLE Obituary
ELGIN - Gordon Richard Schnulle, 88, passed away April 21, 2014. He was born August 25, 1925 in Elgin, IL to Gordon William Schnulle and Ethel M. Zornow Schnulle. He married Dorothy L. Ferhman on May 8, 1948. He attended school in Elgin followed by military service (USMC) in WWII. Employed many years at Elgin Corrugated Box Co as head maintenance man (he lived next door to the plant and was on call 24/7). He also obtained his real estate license, earned his G.E.D. (he had dropped out of school at 16 yrs old to enter the service), was an accomplished knife maker, taxidermist, doll house maker, and after 9/11 spent countless hours speaking on behalf of service men and women. He returned to Iwo Jima recently to visit the sights where he fought and had witnessed the famous flag raising. He was also able to visit the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. where he spread black sand that he had gathered on his visit to Iwo Jima. Details of his struggles at Iwo Jima were detailed in the newspapers. He is survived by his sons Gerald (Marilyn) Lang, Keith (Debbie) Schnulle, Kevin (Pat) Schnulle and daughter-in-law Vicki Lang; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grand children as well as countless other friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by parents and his son Ronald Lang (1999). Funeral services will take place on May 1, 2014 at 11 AM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9 AM until the time of services. Burial with honors will take place on May 2, 2014 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 11 AM.
