M. Schweitzer Obituary
GENOA - M. Schweitzer, 78, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home surrounded by his devoted family.

He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Beaver Crossing, Neb. The son of Orval and Florence (Stutzman) Schweitzer. He married Joy Jennings on June 21, 1958 in Elgin.

Born and raised to Mennonite farmers, Mahlon's early years were spent farming in both Nebraska and Pennsylvania. He owned and operated his own dairy farm in Corry, PA for 13 years. After moving to Illinois, he worked as a surveyor and spent 20 years as a plant operator for the Fox River Water Reclamation District, from where he retired in 2001. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church of South Elgin, as well as a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Genoa which he joined after moving to Genoa to be close to family in 2001.

Mahlon enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening, golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Schweitzer; three children, Jeffrey (Connie) Schweitzer, Lisa (Douglas) Williams and Kevin (Laurie) Schweitzer; seven grandchildren, Megan, Kaitlin and Ryan Williams, Christina and Matthew Schweitzer, Zachary and Jacob Schweitzer; one sister, Belva (Phil) Jantzi; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Leola Danner and Carol Troyer.

The family would like to thank the Kish Health Systems Hospice for their kind care and compassion shown to Mahlon.
A Memorial Service will held on Saturday, May 24, at 2 PM, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott, Genoa, with the Rev. Melissa Meyers officiating. Fellowship and a time to greet the family will follow in the Church hall.
