1921 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
ALGONQUIN - Daniel J. Henry, 92, formerly of Chicago passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born November 1, 1921 in Chicago the son of Daniel D. and Henrietta M. (Born) Henry. He graduated from St. Jarwaths grammar school in 1935 and from Crane Tech High School in Chicago in 1939. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Navy. He married his wife Florence on July 2, 1949 in Chicago. He worked for 11 years for Cook Electric Co. in Chicago and over 31 years for A.B. Dick Co. in Niles. He worked and farmed in Algonquin since 1963. Dan was a master storyteller and told a good joke, loved tools, Big Band music, cars, meatloaf, White Castle sliders and County Fairs. Dan loved to play the Organ, Harmonica and Accordion, but what he loved most was living on his farm and playing the organ for his beloved wife. He could build anything, could fix everything and he loved to attend auctions. He will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Ray) Freutel; grandchildren, Daniel J., Amanda, Joe (Sarah), Steven; 5 great-grandchildren; brother in law, Stan Naruz; sisters in law, Marcie Naruz, Dorothy Naruszewicz; and many nieces and nephews; devoted caregivers, Samantha Sye, Teresa Meyer and Elizabeth Shafer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Florence on May 11, 2010; son Daniel J. Jr. on November 22, 2011; three brothers, Martin, William, Joseph; three sisters, Margaret, Ann and Mary. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the 11:30 Funeral Service at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley with Pastor Sue Shanks officiating. Entombment will be in the McHenry County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Woodstock, IL.
