PHYLLIS MAE SVENDSEN Obituary
Phyllis Mae Svendsen passed away at home Sunday June 1, 2014 at the age of 83 surrounded by her loving husband and family. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer's and peacefully went to heaven where we will join her again someday. She was born May 8, 1931 in Elgin, Illinois to Mable and John Struve. Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, Morris Svendsen on January 27, 1951 and they shared 63 wonderful years together. She was a life long member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin where she was a devoted Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She volunteered her time at the Elgin food pantry and took pleasure in helping others. She enjoyed cards especially bridge and pinochle and belonged to a number of bridge clubs. She kept busy working on cross word and jig saw puzzles, an interest she shared with her husband. She adored spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grand children. In her spare time, Phyllis delighted in taking walks, gardening and was a great cook. Her delicious recipes will live on for generations. Phyllis is survived by her husband Morris Svendsen, daughter Jodi (Jerry) Lutzow, son Ron (Connie) Svendsen, daughter Jill (Tom) Severson, daughter Jackie (Dave) Anderson, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, a brother Richard (Janice) Struve, 3 sister-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. A memorial visitation will take place from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday June 6 at Vineyard Church of Elgin. No flowers please, donations can be made to the Vineyard Church of Elgin. The family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Health Care in Schaumburg and Lexington Hospice for their devoted, loving and affectionate care they provided. Mom will be missed by all but we have comfort knowing her legacy lives on in each one of us. John 14: 1-3 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. In my house there are many rooms. I'm going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come back and take you to be with me." Arrangements are being handled by Laird Funeral Home, Elgin (847) 741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
