1946 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
ELGIN - Delores "Dee" Slawson, 68, of Elgin, IL, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove. She was born June 18, 1946 in Menominee, Michigan, the daughter of Willard and Agnes (Pearson) Erickson. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 26 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elgin. She was a business teacher, starting her career in Marinette, WI. She held positions in business, including 9 years at Safety Kleen in Elgin. She was an avid singer, singing in church choirs and her husband's choral groups. She worked as office manager for Heartland Voices until her illness in 2008. She was a marvelous cook and baker, specializing in her Swedish almond cake, requested by everyone. Her giving spirit, infectious personality, and passion for her family and grandchildren were profound. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Deema." Her favorite place to visit was Mackinac Island, MI, where she was always able to find solitude. Surviving are her husband, John G. Slawson, whom she married on June 3, 1972 in Marinette, Wisconsin; two children, Nicole (Justin) Riebock of Hampshire, IL and Nathan (Andrea) Slawson of Chicago, IL; and five grandchildren, Xander and Carter Riebock, and Henry, Abigail and Eleanor Slawson. She was preceded in death by her parents, many special aunts and uncles, and her very dear friend, Sher. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday July 12 at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave, Elgin, IL. Burial will be in Stephenson, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday July 11 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, IL, and then on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of the services in the church.
