VERONICA M. "BONNIE" DEERING Obituary
Veronica M. "Bonnie" Deering, nee Roberts. Beloved wife of the late Charlie; loving mom of Alice (Tom) Pappas of Skokie and Mary Deering, formerly of Palatine; happy Grammy of Lydia and Vince; dear sister of the late Bill Roberts; fond sister-in-law of Kay Roberts and the late Maury (Elaine) and Joe (Bea) Deering; dear aunt of 21, including the late Eddie Roberts. A lifelong educator, Bonnie was a math and junior high teacher to many Catholic and public school students on the south side of Chicago and in Calumet City between 1954 and 1994. She worked full-time during college, obtaining her bachelor's degree from DePaul in six years, and later, her master's degree from Roosevelt University. Like her husband and partner in crime, Bonnie was always open to "one more," whether in the carpool or at the dinner table. Bonnie and Charlie adopted or found homes for many stray dogs and cats in their former Dolton and Mokena homes. Her family is grateful to the staff at St. Joseph Village and Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter for their care. Please join us to celebrate Bonnie's life at her Wake, Sunday, August 3rd, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Haben Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Road, Skokie. Family and friends will meet for Funeral Mass, Monday, August 4th, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 9711 S. Kolin Ave., Oak Lawn. Interment Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Alsip. Bonnie loved her family, friends, students, animals, football, and the underdog. Her dislikes were few, but included flowers at wakes and funerals.
