JOANNE STEINMETZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2015.
CRYSTAL LAKE - Joanne C. Steinmetz (nee Closset), 83, formerly of Mount Prospect, passed away unexpectedly in her home on February 4, 2015. She was born in Chicago on December 5, 1931 to William and Dorothy (nee Stiller) Closset. Joanne was an alumnus of Taft High School. On September 1, 1951 she married the love of her life, William J. Steinmetz. They made their home in Mount Prospect where they raised their five children. Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was affectionately known as "Nana" by her grandchildren. She was an avid Bridge player and played in several clubs throughout the area. Joanne had many friends and was always there to help anyone in need. She loved her animals, especially her most recent dog, Maggie. Her biggest attributes to her family and friends was her energy, feistiness, ability to make people laugh, and story-telling. Joanne was an excellent cook and always had a beautiful home with an exceptional gift to detail. Loving mother to Kim Steinmetz, Kathy (William) Moloney, Victoria Gunvalson, Lisa (Terry) Bussenger, and William Steinmetz; proud Nana to Michael Wolfsmith, Briana (Ryan) Culberson, Kyle Bussenger, Nicole Bussenger, and Brock Bussenger; cherished Great-Nana Jo to Troy and Owen; and beloved sister to William Closset. Joanne's husband of 46 years, William, preceded her in death in 1997 of Alzheimer's disease who she has missed dearly. Also preceded in death was her sister-in-law, Judith Closset. Visitation will be Sunday, February 8th, from 3pm to 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral Service will take place Monday, February 9th, at 11am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 South Wille St., Mount Prospect. Interment will follow at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation can be made to Association of the Humane Society of the United States, www.humanesociety.org. Vicki I love watching you on the show and I respect you on so many levels. When I saw the episode about your mom I cried so hard, you were so close to your mom.

July 22, 2015

Hi Vicki and Billie. I am a fan of the Housewives and the episode of your Mom passing just aired. I feel compelled to send a note saying how sorry I am for your loss. I lost my Mom 7 years ago, I was on vacation in Mexico when my sister Lori called me with the news.....I know how you are feeling when you cant be there at the end....you feel helpless. I hardly remember the flight back to Vancouver, sobbing most of the way. Time does help, but there isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of her........just remember all the good times. Your mom seemed like a real character and fun to be around just from the couple of minutes I saw her on the show. By the way Vicki keep being who you are in the show, you seem like a real down to earth women and I like that in people. Take Care to all of your family.

ears If tears could build a stairwell and memories were a lane, I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. No farewell words were spoken no time to say good-bye . You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why. My heart still aches in sadness, and secret tears still flow. What it means to lose you, no one will ever know. Anonymous~

My Mother My Angel
Once upon a time an angel held my hand,
she wiped away my tears and helped me understand.
Our time on earth is brief, there's lessons to be learned,
each precious day God gives us another page is turned.
Every chapter full of memories, times of joy and tears,
triumphs and defeats through every passing year.
She loved us unconditional always by our side,
when no one else would listen in her we could confide.
With gentle words of wisdom she led us on our way,
down the paths of righteousness if ever we did stray.
She saw the light in everyone and gave with no regrets,
always from her heart let's us not forget.
Angels come in many forms, for me it is my mother,
with love I cannot say in words there'll never be another.
Every day I turn the page in my heart will ever remain,
everything she taught me as I stroll down memory lane.
Thank you God for giving me the most priceless of all treasures,
help me Lord to keep alive her memory here forever.
I pray that I can some day be everything she hoped I would,
that she's smiling down from heaven knowing she did good.
As we gather here today there's no ending to her story,
another chapter has begun full of grace and glory.
God's called her to his heavenly home part of his great plan,
although it may be hard, we all must understand.
Faith is what is hoped for, things we cannot see,
Heaven is promised to all of us if only we believe.

Vicki and family, I am so so sorry for the loss of such a vibrant woman - your mom. I can't imagine how you are all feeling. Losing someone so suddenly that you love so deeply is never easy at age. Nothing can replace a mom. Remember to keep all the wonderful memories close to your heart. I only wish words could help ease the pain. Take one day at a time, one foot /one step at a time. My mom was also a Taft Eagle as well, graduating three years ahead of your mom. I suppose in a strange way we have a shared connection with our moms. I would like to think possibly our moms knew each other in HS. I will keep your family in thought and prayers. May your sweet mom rest peacefully in the arms of your dad, and may God continue to give you peace and comfort each day.

Thoughts are with the family at this sad time xxx

February 11, 2015

Wow, what a shock when Vicki called me to tell me about Joanne. My deepest sympathies to all of the family. Joanne and I go back all the way to Kindergarten at Onahan Grade School in Norwood Park with Mrs. Hannaman as our teacher. We did a lot of activities together, biking, playing tennis, movies and sleepovers. A true and great friend always. Just recently we had been in contact with each other over the phone, trying to catch up on each other and our families. We both loved to play bridge and talked a lot about how often we played and what fun it was. It was such a shock to hear of her untimely death but she is now reunited with her husband Bill. My children all send their sympathies also. Joan and Don Schroeder

There are no words that can say how bad I feel. I am devastated . I don't know when it will sink in. How many times I would be at home in Mchenry and there she would be in front of my house with Maggie. And before that with Sheba. And the years past when we were younger playing Yatzee! So many memories. I remember a gold beaded dress she wore to a party . She looked like a mermaid beautiful. And what a personality! And what a jest for life. It doesn't seem possible that this has happened. My parents are gone Billy is gone and now she is gone. They are now together. I will miss her forever. I am sorry for her whole family's loss. She was a wonderful cousin and more importantly a wonderful person.

We share the heartache the family is going through at this time. We loved Joanne dearly and enjoyed being with her during our visits to Lisa & Terry and our grandchildren. She brought us so much joy and happiness just being with her. She will be truly missed. We will cherish our thirty years of sincere friendship. To the family, you can be so proud to have had a loving and caring Mother. You too, will cherish her memory always.
