VIRGIL C. THORSON Obituary
Virgil C. Thorson of Elgin Funeral services for Virgil C. Thorson, 87, formerly of the Dundee and Marengo areas, at 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main St., West Dundee. The Rev. Steve Woita, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, at the church. Born Sept. 26, 1922, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Thor and Sofia Thorson, he passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. In 1941, Virgil married Ella Glade. She passed in 1985. In October of 2009, he married his longtime friend, Ann Ross. Virgil was a dairy farmer in Wisconsin and the Dundee area for many years and worked for the Village of West Dundee from 1971 until he retired in 1985. He was always very proud of all of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed the company of his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Bruce (Lori) of Sleepy Hollow, Patricia (Ralph) Cullison of Sheldon, Wis., Virgil Jr. (Marlys) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brian (Amy) of Tampa, Fla., Randal (Sue) of England, U.K., Ronald (Margie) of Marengo and Richard (Yvonne) of Gilberts; and his stepchildren, Judy (Pat) McAtee of Plato Center and Steve (Cindy) Ross of Elgin. Virgil was the proud grandfather to Paul (Donna), Brent (Jessica), Mike (Katie), Matt, Justin, Trish (Brett), Sara, Cortney, Rachel, Wade, Stephanie, Thor and Toby and proud great-grandfather of Ella, Jack, Charlie, Ethan, Everett and Bryton. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Getzelman-Schultz and a brother, Maurice Thorson. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ella Thorson; and five siblings.
