Obituary Condolences

Virginia Helen Holt of Gurnee Visitation for Virginia Helen Holt (nee Dowden), 82, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Born April 27, 1928, in Waukegan, to the late William H. and Helen Dowden, she passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, surrounded by her family at Advocate Condell Medical Center. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School and then married Norman "Jack" Holt on April 7, 1951. Known by her friends as "Jinny," she worked for the Chicago Title Company in Waukegan and later at Abbott Laboratories until her retirement. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She was past president of the Sharvin Unit #397 and a member of the Post and Unit Color Guard. She served as 10th District president, Second Division president and past chapeau 8 et 40, Salon #191. She spent many years serving on various American Legion Auxiliary Department committees and attended many conventions. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church in Gurnee. She was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Jinny loved to travel with her husband and traveling companions, Marion and Dick Brown, Betty (sister) and Bill Potochnik and Bill (brother) and Jane Dowden. Throughout her life, she traveled to 49 of the 50 states and made several international trips. She was a devoted mother and provided loving care to her daughter, Dianne during an illness that lasted several years and required a double-lung transplant. Her strength and love during that time helped her daughter survive. She was a dedicated and generous grandmother, attending countless school and extracurricular activities, planning and hosting vacations, and always giving unconditional love. Known to her great-grandchildren as "Nana," she will be missed for her loving, hugs, stocked candy dish and her willingness to play Candyland. Left to cherish her memory is daughter, Dianne Seymour of Gurnee; grandchildren, Angela (Ramon) Moreno of Kenosha, Wis. and Brian Seymour of Gurnee; great-grandchildren, Maya, Evan and Joel; brother, William (Jane) Dowden of Gurnee; sister, Betty (Bill) Potochnik of Gurnee; stepsister, Jane Swanson of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Dowden; son, Larry Holt; and husband, Norman Holt.
