Obituary Condolences

C. William "Bill" Zadel Jr. C. William "Bill" Zadel Jr. of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Mount Prospect, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at his home in Osterville, Mass. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Zadel (nee Nickla); brother of Michael (Carolyn) Zadel; father of Bartholomew (Jodie), Elizabeth (Ciaran) Foley and David (Maria); grandfather to Finn Foley, Elizabeth, Sophia and Josephine Zadel, Charles and Michael Zadel; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Mary A. Zadel (nee Klestik). Born in Chicago and raised in Mount Prospect, Bill was a member of the first graduating class at Prospect High School. He went on to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was vice president of his graduating class and an All-American football player. Bill was also a combat decorated Marine in Vietnam and left the Marine Corps as a captain. After receiving his MBA from the University of Chicago, he enjoyed a successful career in business, including the positions of president and CEO of Corning Diagnostics, Medford, Mass., chairman and CEO of Millipore Corp., Bedford, Mass., and chairman and CEO of Mykrolis Corp., Burlington, Mass., until his retirement in 2004. Bill was also a director of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, a board member of Kulicke & Soffa Industries and a board member of CIRCOR International. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his outstanding leadership qualities, generosity, sense of duty and dedication to his family. "He will forever be in our hearts." A memorial service will be held at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. on Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Folds of Honor Foundation (foldsofhonor.org).
