EDITH KOUROS Obituary
Edith Kouros Edith Kouros fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at home. She was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Filiatra Messinia, Greece, to Peter and Angeline Giapapas. She came to the United States by way of Ellis Island in 1929, with her mother and her sister, Mary (Mamaies) to be reunited with her father, who paved a way for their arrival to Chicago. Edith married her husband, Constantine in 1937, and adopted their daughter Elaine in 1947. They lived in Hyde Park and two years later, her beloved husband passed away leaving her a widow at 34, to raise their daughter alone. As a single mother, she worked very hard all her years to make a good and loving home for her daughter. She raised her daughter with the values to love and respect others and above all to glorify God. From her early years on she was a very active member in church. While living in Hyde Park/South Shore, she attended Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. After moving to the Rolling Meadows/Palatine area, she attended St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church. She volunteered her time in both churches in many of their ministries. She also volunteered in the American Red Cross during World War II, making bandages for our wounded service men and women. Edith was a strong, loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Bill Kepraios; her grandchildren, Michael (Becky) and Dean Kepraios; and her nephew, Fr. Stavroforos Mamaies from St. Sophia Cathedral in Miami. She was preceded in death by her husband, Constantine; parents, Peter and Angeline; brother, Leondros; and sisters, Mary and Haralambia. Visitation will be on Monday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Family and friends will meet Tuesday, Jan. 17, at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S. Roselle Road, Palatine, IL 60067, for a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Nectarios Church. Arrangements by John G. Adinamis Funeral Director, Ltd., 847-359-8020.
