Obituary Condolences

James G. Dowden of Libertyville James G. Dowden, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1928, in a house on Maple Avenue in Libertyville to Hubert and Grace Butterfield Dowden. He graduated from Libertyville High School and served in the Army infantry in the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star. He married Marvel Hofer on March 5, 1955, in Libertyville and they were happily married for 43 years until her untimely death in 1998. He was a noted local landscape architect and operated his own business, James Dowden and Associates, for many years designing residential and commercial landscapes throughout the Chicago area. He was especially proud to have built up the business started by his father and to have passed it on to his son. He is survived by two children, Lisa Dowden (William Mosley) of Washington, D.C. and Craig (Ann) Dowden of Libertyville; and two grandchildren, the great joys of his later years, Nelson Mosley and Sarah Dowden. Also surviving are his sisters, Barbara Peterson of Vernon Hills and JoAnn Spears of Arlington Heights and longtime companion, Joan Talbot of Schaumburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to Ravinia would be appreciated.
