DEREK W. TOMCHEK Obituary
Derek W. Tomchek of Sugar Grove, formerly of St. Charles Derek W. Tomchek, 32, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. He was born June 8, 1979, in Elk Grove Village, Ill., the son of William and Evelyn (nee Whitaker) Tomchek. Derek attended St. Charles North High School, Class of 1999. He served his country in the Illinois Air National Guard, Air Force Security Police and later as a federal law enforcement officer with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Derek's passion for Brazilian jiu-jitsu/mixed martial arts (BJJ/MMA) led him to compete professionally in the sport, and in recent years, he was a BJJ/MMA instructor and team captain, owner, and head coach of Team Tomchek MMA. He was a devoted, lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears. He is survived by his three children, Madison (9), Chloe (6) and Macklen Tomchek (1); his fiancee, Kelly McCarty of Sugar Grove; mother, Evelyn Tomchek of Middletown, Del.; father, William Tomchek of St. Charles; sisters, Danya (Ted) Davis of Middletown, Del. and Cara (Jay) Steinmetz of Geneva, Ill.; paternal grandmother, Helen Tomchek (nee Barron) of Newport News, Va.; and many other dear family members and friends. Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward J. Tomchek; and maternal grandparents, Harold and Lisa (nee Schliessauf) Whitaker. Memorial visitation will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St. (three blocks west of the Fox River, one block south of Route 64), St. Charles. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Macklen Tomchek Memorial Fund at any branch of the BMO Harris Bank for his youngest child.
