She was born in Greenville, OH, to Clement and Marcia Oskins on Aug. 14, 1913, raised in Ohio and Indiana, and became a devout Christian at the age of 10. She graduated high school in Gettysburg, OH and attended Miami of Ohio for two years before transferring to the University of Iowa, where she met and married George Ekdahl of Geneva, IL, in 1934. After graduating in 1934, they lived in Omaha, NE, where she taught school. They moved to Highland Park, IL in 1937, and to Lake Forest in 1950, where they built their home and raised their family. She had been an active member in the community for 62 years serving as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, president of the Women's Association, and rummage sale volunteer. She was a founding member and former president of The Association of University Women, Lake Forest/Lake Bluff branch; board member and officer of the Lake County Chaplaincy; and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. She served as president of the PTA, an election judge for many years, and she and her husband were founding members of the Lake Forest Club. She loved being with her family and friends, reading, playing the piano, watching football, gardening and participating in church and community activities. She will be remembered for her bright positive spirit, love of Christianity, strength of character and great sense of humor. She will be particularly remembered for helping many people in need throughout her life. She is survived by her children, George E. Ekdahl, Steven T. Ekdahl and Kristine (Bruce) Stromberg; grandchildren, George C. Ekdahl, Nicholas Ekdahl, Kristin Daly (Brian), Jennifer Cortes (Roy), Steven A. Ekdahl; and great-grandchildren, Amanda Ekdahl, George Ekdahl, Oliver Cortes, Lucy Cortes and Leo Daly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George C. Ekdahl of Geneva, IL; son, David Ekdahl; brother, Ronald Oskins; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bergquist, Elizabeth Sanders and Pauline Oskins; and brothers-in-law Emil Bergquist and Arnold Sanders.
