ALFRED RICHARD "DICK" STEFFENS Obituary
Alfred Richard "Dick" Steffens Alfred Richard "Dick" Steffens passed away Nov. 30, 2012, at Pinellas Park Care and Rehabilitation Center in Pinellas Park, FL, after a brief, tough battle with multiple myeloma. He was born in 1934, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago, IL, to Maxine and Olney Richard Steffens. In 1937, they moved to Larchmont, NY, where he spent his youth through high school, attending Mamaroneck High School. Furthering his education at Lehigh University where he became a chemical engineer. His professional career was in the paper industry, in Chicago, up until his retirement in 1981. Several years after his retirement, he started to spend the winter season in Seminole, FL and the summers in Arlington Heights, IL, which he still enjoyed. He loved the beach and all that goes with it. So much so he had to have a convertible automobile and did for the past 30 years. As his license plate said "tplsfun" (top less fun). The consummate host he delighted in smiles and making sure everyone was having a good time. Always considerate and thoughtful to all he interacted with, sending cards and gifts for every occasion. He was very generous and always giving to multiple charities. He will be missed by his significant other, Joan Crawford of Seminole, FL; daughters, Mary Ellen Steffens of Wheeling, IL and Laurie Fowler of Redding, CA and son, David (wife, Nikki) of Danville, CA; five grandchildren; as well as many others he touched with his generosity. His life will be privately celebrated and in lieu of direct mail condolences or gifts, please leave your thoughts here in the guestbook www.caringbridge.org/visit/arichardsteffens/guestbook and if desired donations can be made to the Suncoast Hospice at www.thehospice.org/Special-Pages/Donate or for any additional information you can contact dsteffens2@gmail.com.
