Obituary Condolences

Herbert Sporleder Herbert Sporleder at Peace with Christ passed peacefully at the Johnson Health Care Center of Windsor Park on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the age of 94. Born Dec. 31, 1917, in Schaumburg, IL, he was the son of Frank Sporleder and Mathilda (nee Meyer). Herbert graduated from Bensenville High School in 1936. He proudly enlisted into the Army Air Corps in 1941, and remained active to 1952. He then re-enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1954, and remained active in military service to his time of retirement from the 126th Air Refueling Wing of the Illinois Air National Guard in 1977. Herbert and Nancy V. Cava were married on June 11, 1955, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg and remained faithfully together for more than 57 years. His wife, Nancy; sister, Alice (Benson); son, Steven (Sonja); and grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) and Michael, survive him. His parents, Frank and Mathilda; and brothers, Walter, Herman and George; and his sisters, Charlotte and Margaret, preceded him in death. Herb was a dedicated husband and father whose family was paramount in his life. He found great happiness in helping others in need, and received joyous satisfaction from mentoring young people. He was a dedicated member of the Lutheran faith and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years in addition to his many contributions within the church. Herb was an avid gardener, a good dancer, a fair golfer, and could befriend almost any of God's creatures seemingly without effort. Private interment will be held on Dec. 14, at the Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
