Margaret T. "Muggy" Murphy a resident of Naperville since 1971 Margaret T. "Muggy" Murphy (nee Thompson), age 78, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1971, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Edward Hospital in Naperville surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Bluefield, WV. Muggy was the most loving, giving grandmother, mother and friend. She touched countless lives with her legendary chocolate covered peanut butter balls, her wonderful baked cookies, and her acts of kindness for all those fortunate enough to be in her life. Even when her own health faltered and until her passing, Muggy continued to volunteer at the Edward Cancer Center in Naperville. She enthusiastically attended hundreds of musical and athletic events, watching her grandchildren's plays and band concerts, watching them compete at basketball and volleyball games, cross country, track and swim meets and water polo matches. Muggy loved Christmas, especially cooking for and giving presents to her family. She was an outgoing, vivacious lady who prayed and cared for those in need. Muggy was a friend to half of Naperville and was working on knowing the other half before she passed. Muggy is survived by her son, Dr. Bill (Meg) Murphy of Naperville; her daughter, Suzanne (Judge Bob) Gibson of Naperville; her grandchildren, Mark Murphy, Kelly Gibson, Erin Gibson, Kyle Gibson, Michael Murphy and Jenny Gibson; her sister, Betty Mahaffey; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Eileen Thompson. Muggy was a cheerleader, valedictorian and was voted most likely to succeed in her class at Matoaka High School in Matoaka, WV. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa with a degree in business, but loved the University of Notre Dame. She will be avidly rooting for the Irish from heaven against her alma mater in the national championship game on Jan. 7. Muggy worked at LTV Steel and the Order of Catholic Foresters, along with volunteering at the Edward Cancer Center. She was a longtime parishioner at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Naperville. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Services will begin Thursday, Dec. 27, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home and will proceed to an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Edward Cancer Center, c/o Edward Foundation, 801 S.
