Gerald H. "Jerry" Kimber a resident of Warrenville since 1966 Gerald H. "Jerry" Kimber, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at his home, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Syracuse, NY. He was the beloved husband of Charlene Kimber (nee Mennitt), whom he married July 12, 1986; loving father of Gerald H. (Kristine) Kimber Jr. of West Chicago, IL, Charles D. (Anita) Kimber of West Chicago, IL, Clifford J. (Peggy) Kimber of Troy, MO, Barbara A. (Doug Vaughn) Ellis of South Elgin, IL and the late Thomas A. Kimber; adored grandfather of Missy, Matt (Melissa), Lisa and Trisha Kimber, Samantha, Rebecca and Jonathan (Dawn) Kimber, Sarah A. Ellis and Michael Wiesbrook; cherished great-grandfather of Christian, Kayla, Arianna, Briana, Gino, Blake, Leah, Alyssa and Kyrie; devoted son of the late George and Grace Kimber; dear brother of Mary Ann (Neils) Sejerson of Bainbridge, NY, Martin Kimber of Ruby, NY, and the late George H. Kimber Jr., Geoffrey (Jean) Kimber and William Kimber; beloved nephew of Aunt Geraldine (the late Eugene) Baker of Malverne, NY and cousin, Meredith Baker of New Windsor, NY; brother-in-law of Sheila (the late Jack) Burns of Chicago, IL, Thomas L'Dara of LaVeta, CO and Timothy (Tami) Mennitt of Jacksonville, FL; and fond uncle of many. Jerry grew up in Truxton, NY, attended Truxton Central High School and received his associate degree in electrical engineering from the State University of New York, Morrisville. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957 aboard the USS Eaton and USS Meredith and was a proud member of Tin Can Sailors - The National Association of Destroyer Veterans and American Legion Post #300, P.O. Box 28, West Chicago, IL 60186. Jerry spent his career of 29½ years as an electrical engineer at AT&T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and Naperville, retiring in 1989. He was a private pilot and enjoyed scuba diving and snorkeling. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Warrenville Cemetery, Warrenville.
