Eleanor Mains formerly of Burlington Eleanor Mains, 90, of Eagle River, Wis., passed away on Tuesday Dec. 25, 2012. She was born on July 29, 1922, in Elgin, the daughter of William and Amanda (nee Brammer) Rakow. Eleanor graduated from Elgin High School and had worked at David C. Cook Publishing for many years prior to her retirement. She loved Eagle River, Wis. and fishing in Lake Vermilion, Minn. She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church. Survivors include her four children, Teri (Harlan) Cork of Orr, Minn., Penny (Mike) Otte of Eagle River, Wis., John (Pam) Mains of North Aurora and Joel (Kathi Hurst) Mains of Crystal Lake; 15 grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Kissel, Melissa (Mike) Creadon, Kevin (Cori Petersen) Cork, Lauri (Sean) Hamilton, Jennifer (Wade) Sunderlage, Jennifer (Larry) Creadon, James (Melissa) Otte, Chris (Erin) Mains, Nicole (JR) Szoke, Ramie (Mike) Mundy, Stacie (Jason) Ness, Emily Mains, Ryan (Danielle) Mains, Cassi Hardy and Katie Tracy; 28 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew "Andy" Mains, whom she married on Nov. 23, 1942, and passed on Aug, 31, 1995; her brothers, Melvin (Daisy), Donald (June) and William (Roberta) Rakow; her sister, Ruth (Harold) Bedwell; and a grandchild, Caitlin Weese. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m., in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will follow in River Hills Cemetery, Batavia. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
