Obituary Condolences

Carol Jean Butler Sackman Carol Jean Butler Sackman died peacefully on Jan. 31, 2013. She was three days short of her 85th birthday. Born to George and Jenny Butler, Carol --along with her six sisters (the Butler girls) and brother - was raised in Waukegan. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School and worked at Johns-Manville for many years before marrying her husband of 59 years, LeRoy W. Sackman. Carol lived a vibrant, active life. She was a member of the board of the Waukegan Public Library, a member of the Garden Club and sang with the symphony choir. She was an artist, a craftsperson, and a do-it-yourselfer. Meeting her husband on the golf course, Carol played avidly for the majority of her adult life. She was a past Club Champion at Glen Flora Country Club where she played Team Play and participated on GFCC's women's tennis team. Bridge was another passion of Carol's. She and her Bridge Club friends played together for over 50 years. Along with her sisters, those wonderful ladies were her anchor in her later years. And finally, Carol always enjoyed worshipping the Lord as she attended Village Church of Gurnee. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Lee; son, Gary (Joyce) and daughters, Lori and Jean (Rob); sisters, Ruth, Yvonne and Joanne and sister-in-law, MaryAnn; seven grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She leaves behind a beautiful memory of a strong, giving and doing spirit. God has reunited Carol with her sisters, Violet, Phyllis and Vivian and her brother, David. After Carol passed, her husband, Lee, was resting. He spoke loudly from his slumber. "It's okay now," he said. The wake will take place on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, from 5 to 8 p.m. The next day, Tuesday, Feb. 5, the service will be held at Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee, with a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m., and a 10 a.m. service. The interment will follow the service at the North Shore Garden of Memories Cemetery, 1801 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. Finally, family and friends are invited to join us to share food and fond memories at Stevens' Restaurant, Riverside Plaza, Route 21 Milwaukee Ave., Gurnee. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Carol J. Sackman to Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee, IL 60031.
