ROBERT J. WHITNEY Sr. Obituary
Robert J. Whitney, Sr. Robert J. Whitney, Sr., 95, formerly of Eola, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home. He was born January 2, 1918 in Leland, Illinois, the son of the late Elmer and Betina (Johnson) Whitney. Robert graduated from East Aurora High School. Following school he went on to many different careers, starting with Miller-Bryant-Pierce, then Thermogas and ending at Mercy Center Hospital. Robert was a member of Central Bible Church, Naperville Bible Church and West Chicago Bible Church, ending up attending Village Baptist the last 5 years. He held many positions at these churches, including Deacon, Elder and Senior Bible Group leader. Some of his favorite times were driving children to church at Eola Sunday School and to Bible camp at Crescent Lake. Survivors include his children; Ruth (John) Henning, Beth (Steven) Schroeder, Robert J. (Linda) Whitney, Jr.; his grandchildren, Bill (Connie) Schmidt, Tom (Ruth) Schmidt, Bill (Kelly) Usilton, Bobbi (Tim) Hayes, Heather (Mike) Frakes, Spencer Schroder, Steven (Jenny) Whitney, Angela Whitney, Mark (Kristin) Whitney and Jen Whitney; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife's children; Jack (Judy) Dodds, Jan (Ben) Clark, Mike (Ginny) Dodds, Joel (Kris) Dodds and Joel (Kris) Dodds; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean S. Whitney; his second wife, Irma (Dodds) Whitney; his daughter, Judy Schmidt; his siblings, Willis "Bill" Whitney, Dorothy Schradley, Harold "Red" Whitney and Irene Olbrecht. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora. Robert's memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. also at our Aurora Chapel. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Village Baptist Church, 515 S. Frontenac St., Aurora, IL 60504 for Pastor Rich Howard's ministry in Rwanda. Make checks out to "VBCMF" and send to the church.
