Raisa Bratkiv Raisa Bratkiv, nee Shpakovski, age 72, passed away on July 3rd at home after a courageous battle against cancer. Beloved wife of Walter for 49 years; Devoted mother of Mark, Elizabeth, and Melanie; Proud grandmother of Austin, Ethan, Zachary, and Lucas; Loving sister of Lori (Lew) Blahuta; Dear sister-in-law of Tamara (Vasyl) Dudka, Nina (Mike) Glavtcheff, and Victor (Alexandra) Bratkiv; Wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews; and supportive friend to all. She is preceded in death by her parents Jan and Maria Shpakovski. Raisa was a lifelong supporter of both the Ukrainian and Belarussian communities. She served as the past parish president of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Chicago and as president of the Foundation for the Advancement of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Illinois. Her extensive philanthropic work included service as the past president of the Women's Club of Inverness. Visitation on Monday, July 8, 2013 4pm to 9pm with service at 7pm at Muzyka Funeral Home, 2157 W. Chicago Avenue, Chicago. Funeral on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 10am at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 2238 W. Cortez St., Chicago followed by burial at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Cemetery, 300 E. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to: St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, or Alexian Brothers Hospice (1515 E.
