Raymond Walter DeWitt Raymond Walter DeWitt, age 78, passed peacefully Friday afternoon August 23rd, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 31st, 1935 in Traverse City, MI, he was the son of Clinton DeWitt and Evelyn (Bradwolfe) DeWitt. Ray lived his life to it's fullest and inspired others around him to do the same. He never met a stranger and could always make you laugh, even if you didn't want to. He served faithfully in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the following organizations; United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, VFW, and The Elks. He met the love of his life, Barbara Lankford, on August 19th, 1956 and promptly married her on September 15th, 1956. His passions were his wife, his family, and his music. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara, along with his 5 children; Debora DeWitt-Hanes, Denise DeWitt-Melendez, Dawn DeWitt-Krebs, Daren DeWitt and Ed DeWitt, 17 grandchildren and soon to be 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Kay DeWitt-Witte; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. He is loved for his selflessness, his courage, his compassion, and his humor. He will be missed by all those that had the pleasure of being in his presence. Memorial services for Ray DeWitt will be held at 11 am Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 at the Laird Funeral Home on 310 S. State St, Elgin. Burial services will follow at the River Valley Memorial Gardens in Dundee. Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 10 to 11 am prior to the service.
